!S.P. May p.398 Elijah removed to Harwich when a young man, and kept a store there, returning a few years after to Brewster, and commenced trading in the west part of the town. After the opening of the railroad to North Harwich, he moved to that place, where he engaged in trade up to the time of his last sickness, and was appoint- ed Postmaster in place of Sheldon Crowell, resigned. Mr Sears was in feeble helath for many years, but the immediate cause of his death was from a fall alighting from his carriage. In religious matters Mr Sears took a deep interest, and in all the moral reforms of his time, and in the advocacy of the principles of prohibition he was firm and consistent.
