!S.P. May p.485 Mr Sears removed from Knox, ME, with his parents in 1855, and engaged in farming and stock-raising at Monticello, WI. He enlisted 22 Aug 1862, in 22d Regt WI Vols; was taken prisoner and confined in Libby prison; was with Sherman in his "March to the Sea;" mustered out Jun 1865, and resumed farming. In 1869, he removed to Verdon, near Salem, NE, where he now resides; is a farmer, stock-raiser and manufacturer of sorghum syrup. !AFN-GVQD-06

!BIRTH-MARRIAGE-DEATH-BIOGRAPHY: Letter from RAdm Scott L Sears, Newport, RI, to Ray Sears in Duncan, OK; 1769-1994; Letter dtd 31 Mar 1994; ; copy in poss of Ray Sears, Duncan, OK; Entered the Army as a Hospital Steward, 14 Feb 1862, advancing to Sergeant and then 2nd Lt on 1 Apr 1864. Promoted to 1st Lt, 31st Regiment of Infantry of Massachusetts 7 Jun 1865. Fought in battle of New Orleans, and in engagements at Prot Hudson, Brashear City, Sabine Cross Roads, Cane River Crossing, Alexandria, Governor Moor's Plantation, Yellow Bayou a nd the Siege of Mobile. After the war was a druggist.
