Notes

!S.P. May Nathaniel lived on the farm until 21, studied medicine one year, then went with his brother Orrin to Chatauqua co., where they located 100 acres of land, and erected a saw-mill on the west branch of the Conowauga creek, being among the first pioneers of that section, then a wilderness without roads, and nothing but marked trees to guide one through the forest from one log cabin to another. A few years later they built a grist-mill. These mills were the first in that section, and a Godsend to early settlers. He was pretty well versed in the law, a Justice of the Peace, circa 1834, and an acting magistrate for 20 years. He played the flute, fife and drum, was often appointed on town com- mittees, was a man of influence and a member of the M.E. Church
