Yarmouth Register, 19 Apr 1930, East Dennis - Mr Henry H Sears died at his home here April 15 after a brief illness. A son of the late Nathan and Sarah Howes Sears, he was born at East Dennis July 17, 1845. In 1870 he married Mary C Homer, whose death occurred 18 years ago.
Mr Sears is survived by his two sons, Harry E and Joseph H, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, also a brother, Seth Sears of Brewster, and a sister, Mrs Myra Graham of Greeley, Colorado.
For many years he was a merchant in the village but it was with the larger affairs of life, that he was more closely identified, serving his town and state in many capacities. Mr Sears was at one time a member of the school committee, tree warden and also a member of the board of selectmen, for many years its chairman. Later he served two terms as representative to the General Court of Masachusetts from the old second Barnstable district. He was quite widely known in banking circles, having been connected with the Cape Cod National and Five Cents Savings Bank of Harwich, the Chatham Trust Co and until his death a vice president of the Bass River Savings Bank of South Yarmouth.
Mr Sears was a charter member of the Quivet Tribe of Red Men, a member of Mt Horeb Lodge, A F and AM of West Harwich, also of the Dennis grange and fully exemplified the noblest traditions of each.
He was a director of the Cape Cod Pilgrim Memorial association.
In his own community his loyalty to the public good was ever manifest as evidenced by his long service as Justice of the Peace, trustee and treasurer of the Jacob Sears Memorial Library, clerk and treasurer of the Wesleyan Methodist Church and treasurer and trustee of the Quivet cemetery.
The public called and he gave in full measure. Ever wise in his counsel with his family and friends ever true to the faith entrusted in him hehas made a path of faithfulness and loyalty that we of younger generations can well follow.
