!JAM She received the best possible education for a girl of the 1850s, was taken to New York city to see the opera, plays, concerts, and to buy clothes. In about 1862, her father sent for her from CA, and she obtained a letter supposedly signed by Pres Abraham Lincoln allowing her passage through Union Lines, and traveled by wagon train. She married and they purchased the Round Hill Ranch in Catheys Valley, and raised cattle and livestock, and mined for ore and copper. In 1892 they purchased a house in Fresno where Sarah and most of the children moved. The schools were better in Fresno and life was not so hard. In the summertime when CA central valley got unbearably hot, Sarah and her children would take a 3 day trip to Santa Cruz, CA and stayed by the ocean for the summer. They had nine children with the youngest dying in infancy. My grandfatehr was their fourth child and second son. Sarah had a love for genealogy which I inherited.
